Understanding LNAT scores and past results is quite useful before you start preparing for the LNAT 2024.
By understanding how the LNAT is marked and how the scores are used, you can focus your preparation on the most important aspects of the exam.
Understand the scores will also prevent you from needlessly worrying about aspects like the maximum, average, minimum etc. – which make for interesting statistics, but cannot predict your chances of getting an admission.
How Do the LNAT Scores Work?
The LNAT exam has two parts, but only Section A (MCQ) has a score.
Section B tests your essay writing skills, and while it isn’t graded by the assessment center, universities you apply to will see it.
Different LNAT schools have their own ways of evaluating the essay, making it a subjective part of your application and admissions process.
Average LNAT Scores
The average LNAT scores keep fluctuating year to year. But they generally hover at around the 50% mark.
While the average LNAT scores may be interesting to see, they may not add paint a complete picture because the averages will include the scores of all the 7000+ candidates who took the exam that year; and not just the candidates who secured offers in the LNAT universities.
The average scores for past years is as below:
Cycle | Score | Percentage |
2012/2013 | 21.3/42 | 50.7 |
2013/2014 | 21.1/42 | 50.2 |
2014/2015 | 22.3/42 | 53.1 |
2015/2016 | 22.9/42 | 54.5 |
2016/2017 | 17.9/42 | 42.6 |
2017/2018 | 19.9/42 | 47.4 |
2018/2019 | 23/42 | 54.8 |
2019/2020 | 21.5/42 | 51.2 |
2020/2021 | 20.8/42 | 49.5 |
2021/2022 | 21/42 | 50 |
2022/2023 | 22/42 | 52.4 |

What is a ‘good’ LNAT score for 2024?
This is probably the most frequently asked question about the LNAT.
A good LNAT score depends on the average results for the year.
There is no ‘minimum passing score’ for the LNAT, universities look at LNAT results holistically, along with other information available in the application form.
As a ground rule, try to achieve a score above the national average and similar to the average score of previous candidates for your chosen university or universities.
In general, a score of 27 or more likely means you’ll surpass the average for successful applicants at LNAT schools.
However, a high score doesn’t automatically guarantee admission, as universities consider your entire application.
It’s crucial to work on other parts of the admissions process, like writing a strong personal statement.

When Will You Receive Your LNAT Results?
Depending on when your sit for the LNAT, the results are communicated to you by email in two batches:
- If you take the LNAT on or before January 26, you will receive your results email by mid-February.
- If you take the LNAT after January 26, you will receive your results email by mid-August.
The LNAT website does not mention any specific ‘communication date’ for your results.
In any case, your LNAT scores will be available directly to the universities you have indicated in your LNAT registration, so don’t worry about the specific result dates.
This means you won’t know your score when applying to your chosen universities.
When will your chosen universities receive your LNAT scores?
As per the official LNAT website “Starting on 21 October, the first batch of LNAT scores (tests taken between 1 September to 20 October) are released to the universities to download. After that date, within 24 hours of finishing your LNAT, Pearson VUE will make your LNAT score and essay available for download by your chosen university or universities. They will see your score before you do.”
How Long Are LNAT Scores Valid?
Your score is valid only for the year you took the exam. LNAT results don’t carry over from one year to another.
If you reapply to LNAT universities, you must book and pay for another test through the Pearson VUE website and retake the test.
If you attempt the LNAT multiple times in the same cycle, only the scores from your first attempt will be used by the universities.
